About the brand

Pei Ching Hsiao and partner Jean-Marc Daniëls started Taiwan-Lantern in 2013 with a mission to bring Taiwanese heritage to the forefront of the design world. Collaborating closely with the last traditional lantern factory in Taiwan, the brand’s designs make use of local materials, artisans, and centuries old knowledge, as well as incorporating eastern philosophical principles like Wu Xing into the design practice. This ensures collections that resonate on an emotional level. An interplay between tradition and modernity, the collection presented at MATTER and SHAPE (2025) is inspired by the idea that objects can evoke powerful emotions like admiration and desire. Blending traditional finishes with contemporary shapes, the collection will focus on lighting, aiming to create neo-traditional reinterpretations of Asian heritage. Produced by hand, elements of Wu Xing, color symbolism and natural materials are incorporated. The brand will also reveal its latest products: the Table Lantern collection and a custom floor lamp.
