The Standard Chair was designed by Jean Prouvé in 1934 and is today produced by Vitra.
Drawing on Prouvé’s engineering background, its construction responds directly to the forces exerted on a chair: the rear legs, which carry most of the sitter’s weight, are formed from large hollow steel sections, while the front legs remain slender.
The seat and backrest are made from natural oak plywood, paired here with a powder-coated steel frame in Prouvé Blanc Colombe.
Functional, precise and instantly recognizable, the Standard Chair embodies Prouvé’s approach to furniture, where structural logic becomes an essential part of the design.
