AALVO GALLERY

Glória Chair

Glória, a solo exhibition by Rafael Triboli, synthesizes the foundational aspects of his practice, bringing together techniques and resources that have long inhabited his repertoire, but now achieve an organic communication with the naturalness that constant engagement with the material brings.

One of these aspects is material frankness, where each piece appears without concealing what it is made of, as if the work serves to validate the material in its elementary state. Mahogany, cedar, imbuia, brass, bronze, and wax, and then the finishes, which here serve to emphasize what is already inherent in the wood itself. In the case of the sconces, paint applications conceal the surface to the extent that they draw the eye to what is left raw.

Rawness, incidentally, is one of the distinctive traits of Triboli’s repertoire, and it gives body to his essentially procedural approach. The raw is not equivalent to the unfinished but is a field of physical and conceptual sense that lends itself to recording physical effort. Frankness, rawness, and now rhythm. This last factor is what allows each piece of furniture to be taken as part of a pattern of changes or transformations. Graphics, grooves, grafts, and fillings repeat in different pieces but never seem automated. The simple and determined motifs that adorn Triboli’s pieces are traces of his hand, and in this sense, each surface here is a collection of gestures, a kind of visual notation that ingrains itself in the wood.

About the brand

Rafael Triboli at Aalvo Gallery - a self-taught artist born in Porto Alegre and currently residing and working in São Paulo, emerges as a compelling figure within the artistic landscape. His creative journey began in the southern region of Brazil, where he delved into the study and experimentation of industrial processes and traditional woodworking techniques, ultimately crafting his initial collection of authorial pieces. In 2018, Triboli relocated to São Paulo, a city known for its vibrant artistic scene, where his artistic vision flourished. Inspired by the works of influential figures such as Donald Judd and Le Corbusier, he channeled his creativity into the development of a remarkable collection in 2020. Paying homage to these iconic artists, Triboli’s pieces exude a distinctive blend of inspiration, originality, and craftsmanship. Moreover, Triboli has demonstrated his versatility by venturing into the realm of interior design. Notably, he spearheaded the interior design project for SINGA, drawing inspiration from the groundbreaking book “Autoprogetazzione” by Italian designer Enzo Mari. This endeavor sought to embody the ethos of self-construction and a steadfast opposition to mass production, aiming to democratize design. By integrating thoughtful compositions and careful curation, Triboli injected his unique perspective into the project, stimulating a fresh and inclusive approach to the world of design. Building on his creative achievements, 2022 marked a significant milestone for Triboli as he unveiled his much-anticipated series of floor lamps, aptly named “CLAREIA.” This collection showcases his mastery of form and light, illuminating spaces with a harmonious interplay between functionality and aesthetic appeal.
